This video is a strong, engaging historical narrative about cannabis and how it had a real place in American medicine, and federal policy helped push it out. Cannabis had a recognized medical role, and its place in American medicine was gradually dismantled through regulation and prohibition. It wasn’t erased in one stroke: state restrictions accumulated, the 1937 federal tax law made medical use difficult to sustain, and removal from the U.S. Pharmacopeia in 1942 further stripped away its medical standing. The Controlled Substances Act later cemented federal prohibition. The 1937 Marijuana Tax Act made medical use burdensome through taxes and registration rules; cannabis was removed from the Pharmacopeia in 1942.
