Can God’s existence be understood through simple reason?

Think of it this way: a line must have a first point. Without a beginning, there is no line. In the same way, existence points back to a beginning, a first reality from which all things came.

Second, an endless past cannot be crossed. If time had no beginning, we would never arrive at this present moment. Yet here we are. That suggests time itself had a beginning.

Third, nothing cannot produce something. Power, order, life, and intelligence do not arise from absolute nothingness. There must be a Source greater than the universe itself.

That Source must be beyond time, beyond matter, powerful enough to bring existence forth, and intelligent enough to give order to creation

The ancients taught that creation points back to a single eternal Source.

In the opening of Genesis it is written, “In the beginning…” Even the oldest sacred texts speak of existence having a first cause, a divine origin from which all things emerged. A line cannot exist without a first point, and creation cannot exist without an originating Source.

The ancient Greek philosophers reasoned that an infinite chain of causes could never arrive at the present moment. Aristotle called this the “Unmoved Mover,” the eternal reality behind all motion and existence. Likewise, the sages of India spoke of Brahman, the timeless Absolute from which the worlds arise and return again.

In the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus says, “Split a piece of wood; I am there. Lift up the stone, and you will find me there.” The ancient mystics believed that the divine intelligence is woven into the fabric of existence itself, revealed through order, harmony, mathematics, and consciousness.

The Hermetic teachings declared, “As above, so below,” teaching that the universe reflects an intelligent pattern rather than chaos. From the movement of stars to the structure of life, creation appears governed by law, proportion, and design.

Even time itself reveals a mystery. If the past were truly endless, the present could never arrive. Yet here we stand, alive within this moment. The ancient scriptures therefore spoke of a reality beyond time — eternal, uncreated, and sustaining all things.

Whether called God, the Infinite Creator, Brahman, the One, or the Source, humanity has long sensed that existence is not accidental. The universe appears less like a random event and more like a living expression of an eternal intelligence inviting humanity to awaken, seek truth, and remember its connection to the divine.
