The Real Reason why Tucker Carlson came to Moscow

Fyodor Lukyanov: Here’s the real reason why Tucker Carlson came to Moscow

Last night’s event was sensational, but what was the real motivation behind the Kremlin encounter?

Fyodor Lukyanov: Here’s the real reason why Tucker Carlson came to Moscow

A few years ago, Russia was accused of interfering in American political processes. Now the opposite has happened. US domestic politics is dragging the Russian factor – represented by President Vladimir Putin – into its own electoral process.

Journalist Tucker Carlson is a strongly ideological man who represents a certain political camp. He brought to Moscow a profound spirit of internal American confrontation.

Carlson was probably personally curious to hear a lot of previously unknown things about our circumstances, but the goal wasn’t to learn or broaden horizons. The Putin interview was a challenge to the establishment in his home country.

Full Tucker Carlson Interview with Vladimir Putin

The aim was to break through the conventional narrative – supported by the mainstream media – so that an alternative can fill the breach.

Exactly what Putin was talking about is unimportant. The Russian president’s reputation makes him a powerful battering ram for Carlson. And the rest of the agenda, which is much more important to voters than Russia and Ukraine, is expected to follow him into the space they are trying to open up.

The basic idea is this – look where they (the Washington swamp) have led us.

Whether it is good for Russia or not is debatable. Any involvement in other people’s quarrels can have various consequences. And not always the ones we might predict.

As far as we can tell, the Russian leadership has no intention or ambition to reshape America. Its goals here are more about influencing a specific issue.

Since it is impossible for the Kremlin to persuade their official counterparts across the ocean – no matter how many reasonable arguments are presented – the rational course is to contribute to their quarrels in the hope that these same opponents will delve deeper into their own problems.

Meanwhile, the world’s hypertrophied attention to this interview shows there are weaknesses and that the other side feels them.

Who turns out to be a useful idiot (that’s what Hillary Clinton has called Carlson) will be revealed a little later.

Putin ‘Not Ruling Out’ Prisoner Swap for US Reporter Evan Gershkovich

‘At the end of the day, it does not make sense to keep him in prison in Russia,’ Putin said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has suggested that Russia and the United States could potentially reach an agreement regarding a prisoner swap involving The Wall Street Journal reporter Evan Gershkovich.

Mr. Putin made the comments during an interview with former Fox News host Tucker Carlson, which was conducted at the Kremlin on Feb. 6 and published online two days later.
The roughly two-hour-long discussion between the Russian leader and the news anchor covered a wide range of topics, including Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine, NATO expansion, the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline, and topics related to businessman Elon Musk, among others.
Mr. Carlson also pressed the Russian leader on a possible prisoner swap involving Mr. Gershkovich, who has been detained by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) on espionage charges since March 2023.

The host asked Mr. Putin if he would consider releasing Mr. Gershkovich into his custody “as a sign of decency.”

“We have done so many gestures of goodwill out of decency that I think we have run out of them,” President Putin said. “We have never seen anyone reciprocate to us in a similar manner, however in theory, we can say that we do not rule out that we can do that if our partners take reciprocal steps.”

The Russian leader noted that the “partners” he was referring to are U.S. special services and said both they and Russian special services are currently in contact with one another and discussing the case.

“There is no taboo to settle this issue, we are willing to solve it. But certain terms are being discussed,” by both the U.S. and Russian partners, he said.

‘Agreement Can Be Reached’

“I believe an agreement can be reached,” Mr. Putin added.

Mr. Carlson went on to tell the Russian leader that Mr. Gershkovich is “obviously not a spy,” and “just a kid,” but is being held hostage in Russia.

He then suggested that imprisoning the reporter in Russia “degrades Russia,” and that “maybe it’s not fair to ask for an exchange.”

However, Mr. Putin countered that Mr. Gershkovich was “receiving classified and confidential information and he did it covertly,” which he said qualifies as espionage.

The Russian leader went on to mention a Russian “patriot” who had “eliminated a bandit” in a European capital, appearing to confirm previous reports that Russia is urging U.S. authorities to conduct a prisoner swap with Vadim Krasikov.

Mr. Krasikov was convicted by a court in Berlin, Germany, in 2021 of killing Zelimkhan “Tornike” Khangoshvili, a 40-year-old Georgian citizen of Chechen ethnicity. He is currently serving a life sentence in prison. The Russian leader did not specifically state if the U.S. and Russia have discussed a prisoner swap involving Mr. Krasikov.

Gershkovich ‘May Return to His Motherland’

“I do not rule out that the person you refer to, Mr. Gershkovich, may return to his motherland,” Mr. Putin said. “At the end of the day, it does not make sense to keep him in prison in Russia.”

“We want the U.S. special services to think about how they can contribute to achieving the goals our special services are pursuing,” he concluded.

Mr. Gershkovich was arrested in Yekaterinburg in the Ural Mountains, roughly 900 miles east of Moscow, while allegedly reporting on the Wagner mercenary group.
At the time, the FSB said it had “thwarted the illegal activities” of Mr. Gershkovich, who it said was “suspected of spying in the interests of the American government.”

Both Mr. Gershkovich and his employer, The Wall Street Journal, have vehemently denied the allegations. He is being held at Moscow’s Lefortovo Prison, a former KGB prison known for its harsh conditions.

The Moscow-based correspondent lost his third appeal in October 2023. He faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
In a statement released on Feb. 8 following the interview, The Wall Street Journal said: “We’re encouraged to see Russia’s desire for a deal that brings Evan home, and we hope this will lead to his rapid release and return to his family and our newsroom.”

“Evan is a journalist, and journalism is not a crime. Any portrayal to the contrary is total fiction. Evan was unjustly arrested and has been wrongfully detained by Russia for nearly a year for doing his job, and we continue to demand his immediate release,” the statement continued.

Biden Promises Ukraine’s Zelenskyy Advanced Air Defense Systems After Russian Missile Attacks

By Katabella Roberts
October 11, 2022 Updated: October 11, 2022

President Joe Biden on Monday promised President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Washington will supply Ukraine with advanced air defense systems amid Russia’s ongoing invasion.

The two leaders spoke on the phone shortly after Russia launched its largest air strike yet on Ukraine following the destruction of a bridge linking Russia to the annexed Crimean peninsula over the weekend. Russian President Vladimir Putin accused Ukraine’s security services of perpetuating the attack.

Russia’s strikes killed at least 11 civilians, Ukrainian officials said, and knocked out Ukraine’s power grid, leaving parts of the country with no electricity, water, or heat.

Thousands of residents were forced to shelter in bomb shelters throughout the day as missiles rained down on multiple cities, with explosions reported in Kyiv, Lviv, Ternopil, and Zhytomyr in western Ukraine, Dnipro, and Kremenchuk in the center, Zaporizhzhia in the south and Kharkiv in the east.

During Monday’s call, Biden “expressed his condemnation of Russia’s missile strikes across Ukraine, including in Kyiv, and conveyed his condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured in these senseless attacks” according to a White House readout of the call.

“President Biden pledged to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defense systems,” the readout said.

“He also underscored his ongoing engagement with allies and partners to continue imposing costs on Russia, holding Russia accountable for its war crimes and atrocities, and providing Ukraine with security, economic, and humanitarian assistance,” the statement added.

The White House did not state exactly which air defense systems Biden said he will supply to Zelenskyy during their call but earlier this year, Washington committed to provide Ukraine with National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile Systems (NASAMS)

Those anti-aircraft systems are manufactured by the Norwegian company Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace and used to protect the airspace around the White House and Capitol in Washington. They can be used to strike Russian cruise missiles.

‘Sign’ of Russian Weakness

Zelenskyy’s office also issued a statement on Monday detailing his phone call with Biden which stated that the Ukrainian president informed Washington about the “consequences of the massive missile strikes against civilian infrastructure perpetrated today by the Russian aggressor.”

Zelenskyy said the “strikes against civilian targets throughout Ukraine are a sign of weakness of the Russian army which is losing on the battlefield. It is pure terror” but that Ukraine “will not succumb to the Russian missile blackmail,” according to the statement.

Biden and Zelenskyy also discussed the “importance of air defense, and continued U.S. contributions to increase this capability” the statement adds.

Russia-Ukraine Conflict Escalates

The two leaders also discussed the “upcoming extraordinary meeting of the Group of Seven Leaders (G7) dedicated to Ukraine and most pressing measures of support for Ukraine which can be adopted by the international community,” according to Zelenskyy’s office.

In total, the Biden administration has committed a total of $15.8 billion in military aid to Ukraine since Russia invaded Ukraine on Feb. 24.

The latest promise of advanced air defense systems to Ukraine comes as its conflict with Russia continues to escalate.

On Monday, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, one of Vladimir Putin’s closest allies, said that some of his country’s 60,000-strong army will deploy with Russian forces near Ukraine.

Lukashenko said the decision was made because Ukraine had been preparing to attack Belarus with help from allies Poland and Lithuania, although he did not provide any evidence relating to such claims.

“Strikes on the territory of Belarus are not just being discussed in Ukraine today, but are also being planned,” Lukashenko said at a meeting on security. “Their owners are pushing them to start a war against Belarus to drag us there.”

Following Lukashenko’s announcement, Polish citizens in Belarus were being advised by the government to leave the country as relations between the two countries increasingly turned sour.

He also thinks that the upcoming Danchenko trial should shed some light on why the FBI took the fake information seriously.

FBI Has ‘Secure’ Workspace in Law Firm That Represents Democrats: Document

By Zachary Stieber
June 5, 2022 Updated: June 5, 2022

The FBI has a workspace in the same law firm that employed the lawyer who took sketchy claims about Donald Trump and Russia to the bureau in 2016, the firm revealed in a new document.

The workspace, known as a “secure work environment,” within Perkins Coie’s office in Washington was cleared by the FBI on March 26, 2012, and has been “in continuous operation since then,” Michael Bopp, an attorney representing Perkins Coie, told members of Congress in a May 25 letter that was reviewed by The Epoch Times.

What’s more, Michael Sussmann, the lawyer who took the claims against Trump to the FBI’s nearby headquarters ahead of the 2016 election, had access to the workspace through July 2021, according to the missive.

The workspace was created in 2011 and includes a General Services Administration-approved security container and a key locker, both of which were paid for by Perkins Coie. It also features a secure telephone, a fax machine, and a security token card, each of which is owned by the bureau.

The workspace is maintained by Perkins Coie and periodically inspected by the FBI to ensure the space “is operating in accordance with the requisite standards,” according to the letter.

“The Democrat Party’s law firm … has this co-located workspace that they operate in concert with the FBI. Why in the world would that be the case?” Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) said on Fox News, which first reported on the letter sent to Gaetz and Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio).

The FBI indicated that the workspace is lawful and that it’s meant to shield classified documents from the bulk of workers at Perkins Coie and other companies that have similar spaces.

“The FBI complies with the law and security policies and works with the Department of Justice to serve classified, Court-authorized legal process [sic] necessary to support national security investigations,” an FBI spokesperson told The Epoch Times in an email.

“In certain instances, the FBI coordinates with non-government, third-party entities, such as law firms, that represent service providers which receive these classified Court orders. This includes providing access to private attorneys which represent the service providers in satisfaction of their legal rights. As part of this, the FBI ensures that any storage of classified orders meets stringent security protocols required for such documents.”

Gaetz said he consulted with former federal prosecutors, who informed him they had never heard of a similar relationship.

“Our concern is that politically motivated dirt was being converted into politically motivated investigations,” he said.

The lawmakers want the facility shut down.

Perkins Coie didn’t respond to requests for comment. The FBI didn’t answer when asked whether the bureau had considered closing the facility.

According to the letter, the facility is operating under a “modified arrangement.” That disclosure came in response to a question about whether the same arrangement remained in place after Sussmann resigned from the firm in September 2021.

Sussmann was charged that month with lying to the FBI. The lawyer handed over data and white papers claiming there was a secret link between Trump’s business and a Russian bank just weeks before the 2016 election. Sussmann was representing the campaign of Hillary Clinton, Trump’s rival, at the time. The FBI determined the data didn’t support the allegations, and the CIA later reached a similar conclusion. Sussmann told an FBI lawyer he was acting on his own accord, but later told Congress he was acting on behalf of a client. He was acquitted on May 31.

Sussmann was well-known throughout the FBI. He worked closely with the bureau in its investigation of the intrusion into Democrat entities’ networks and even had an FBI badge that gave him access to the bureau’s headquarters, which he used when meeting with the bureau lawyer.

FBI Director Christopher Wray, a Trump appointee, was pressed during a Senate hearing on May 25 about Sussmann by Sen. John Kennedy (R-La.), who questioned why Sussmann had the badge and why the FBI kept his identity secret from agents who investigated the allegations.

Wray said he couldn’t answer the questions because Sussmann’s trial wasn’t over.

“Because I’ve got agents working with [special counsel John] Durham on the case, and they’re in the middle of trial right now, I just don’t think I can get into a discussion of that here,” Wray said.

Elon Musk Says ‘No One in the Media Cares’ About Exposing Jeffrey Epstein’s Alleged Clients

By Gary Bai
June 4, 2022 Updated: June 6, 2022

The richest person in the world has taken a swipe at the media over allegedly being disinterested in investigating the suspected clients of the alleged sex trafficking ring run by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.

In a series of tweets on June 4, Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk said it is “remarkable” how the U.S. Department of Justice has not published the list of clients of convicted sex offender Epstein and his co-conspirator Maxwell, a convicted sex trafficker. The pair were accused of procuring, trafficking, sexually abusing a vast network of female minors as young as 11.

What is more “remarkable,” Musk said, is that “no one in the media cares” about the Epstein-Maxwell case.

Although Epstein and Maxwell were accused of operating a child sex trafficking ring, none of their clients have been charged. According to some abuse survivors, the ring’s clients include powerful politicians, businessmen, and other influential leaders, who, since Epstein’s scandal broke, have attempted to distance themselves from the financier.

Epstein, who in 2008 was convicted and sentenced for soliciting prostitution from a minor, was found dead in a New York federal jail in August 2019. At the time, he was awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges for abusing women and girls in Manhattan and Florida from 2002 to 2005.

The New York City Medical Examiner’s Office ruled that his death was suicide by hanging. However, a forensic pathologist who was hired by his brother, Mark Epstein, said Epstein’s autopsy was more indicative of homicide, not suicide.

A jury found Maxwell guilty of six sex-trafficking charges in December 2021.

“Sometimes I think my list of “list of enemies is too short, so…” Musk wrote in the thread of posts on Twitter.

A commenter to the threat posted a picture of Musk and Maxwell at a Vanity Fair party in 2014. In response to the picture, Musk took a further swipe at those who are pushing the theory that he is associated with Maxwell and Epstein.

“Ah yes, Maxwell photobombing me at a @VanityFair Oscars party – you should them why they invited her,” Musk wrote. “The same people who push this photo say nothing about prominent people who actually went to his island a dozen times. Also very strange …”

The billionaire later highlighted a Vanity Fair article published in 2003, which reads, “Lately, Jeffrey Epstein’s high-flying style has been drawing oohs and aahs: the bachelor financier lives in New York’s largest private residence, claims to take only billionaires as clients, and flies celebrities including Bill Clinton and Kevin Spacey on his Boeing 727.”

“Interesting,” Musk wrote.

Musk’s comments on the Epstein-Maxwell case came weeks after he questioned why Vanity Fair invited Maxwell to a party Musk attended in 2014. Back then, he also questioned why none of Epstein’s alleged clients have gone “down.”

“Where is their “client” list? Shouldn’t at least one of them go down!?” Musk commented.

The media and the globalists have brainwashed the world to hate Vladimir Putin. He is supposedly a dictator, thug, bully, and killer. But new world order leftists who are targeting Putin love totalitarianism, coercion, war, and depopulation. There is another reason why they hate Putin. In this 2013 Valdai Discussion Club speech, Putin revealed his support for nationalism, traditional culture, Western civilization, and Christianity and criticized gender confusion, homosexual “marriage,” the promotion of pedophilia, the silencing of Christian holidays and their related moral values, and more. In other words, Putin makes a stand for Christian civilization and national sovereignty while the West (including the US) fights against the same. WHY GLOBALISTS HATE PUTIN
