The Rainbow Body and the Light Within

While neuroscience continues to uncover the effects of prayer and meditation on the human brain, there exists a far more profound mystery that transcends biology—the transformation of the body into light. This phenomenon, known in Tibetan Buddhism as the Rainbow Body, represents the culmination of spiritual evolution and the full realization of divine consciousness within the human form.

Father Francis Tiso and the Investigation of the Rainbow Body

Dr. Father Francis V. Tiso, a Catholic priest, scholar, and author of Rainbow Body and Resurrection, personally investigated the case of Khenpo A Cho, a Tibetan Buddhist monk whose passing in 1998 revealed one of the most compelling modern examples of this phenomenon.

At the age of seventy-four, Khenpo A Cho entered a deep spiritual retreat, devoting himself to continuous practice and mantra recitation. Reports say he completed over 400 million repetitions of the mantraOm Mani Padme Hum”, a sound vibration invoking the compassion of Avalokiteśvara, the Bodhisattva of Infinite Light. He also recited the Long Life Prayer of the Protector of the Snow Ranges and the Heart Prayer of Enlightened Activities associated with His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

In Simple Essence “Om Mani Padme Hum” means:

“I honor the Divine Light of Compassion and Wisdom within me and all beings.”
It is the sound of awakening — the heartbeat of the universe singing,
“The jewel of love blooms within the lotus of the soul.”

In the final days of his life, Khenpo exhibited peace and clarity. On the day of his transition, he ate very little, displayed no signs of fatigue or illness, and calmly laid on his right side, facing west. Chanting the sacred six-syllable mantra, he quietly passed away at noon.

What followed astonished all present. According to eyewitnesses, including monks and Father Tiso himself, his face became youthful and radiant, his wrinkles vanished, and a sweet fragrance filled the room and surrounding area. Over the following days, rainbow lights appeared in the sky, hovering over his home. Each day, his physical body grew smaller until, by the seventh day, it had completely dissolved into light, leaving behind only hair and nails—a sign described in Tibetan scriptures as the manifestation of the “Vajra Body” or “stainless rainbow body.”

The Light Within All Traditions

Father Tiso’s cross-cultural research revealed that the concept of the light body appears not only in Tibetan Buddhism but also in Christianity, Sufism, Bon, Zoroastrianism, Manichaeism, and the Vedic traditions. Each describes a divine transfiguration—a return of the physical form into its original essence of light.

Early Christianity, especially among the Gnostics, spoke of the Divine Spark—the hidden light within every human being. The Gospel of Thomas records Jesus saying:

“Images are visible to people, but the light within them is hidden in the image of the Father’s light. He will be disclosed, but his image is hidden by his light.”

Similarly, in the New Testament, Jesus declared:

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.” — Matthew 6:22

These teachings echo the same universal truth: through purification, meditation, and divine love, the human body can become luminous—a living vessel of Infinite Intelligence.

The Chakras and the Alchemy of Light

The Rainbow Body corresponds to the activation and unification of the seven chakras—our energy centers that bridge spirit and matter. When these centers vibrate in perfect harmony, the soul’s inner light radiates outward, transforming even the physical body into pure frequency.

In this sacred process, science and spirituality converge. Just as Dr. Andrew Newberg’s brain studies show measurable effects of prayer and meditation, the Rainbow Body may represent the ultimate neurospiritual transformation—where consciousness no longer inhabits form but becomes light itself.

Infinite Consciousness in Every Being

From the monasteries of Tibet to the words of Jesus, the message is the same: we are beings of light, capable of realizing our divine origin. The transformation of Khenpo A Cho and others like him stands as a radiant reminder that the path to Infinite Intelligence is not myth—it is the destiny of every soul who learns to live in perfect love, wisdom, and unity with the Creator.

The Light Body and the Inner Illumination

Attaining the light body is not reserved for saints or mystics—it is the destiny of every soul. Across cultures and centuries, there is ample testimony that this transformation exists both now and in ancient times. It is the awakening of the human form into pure consciousness, the merging of matter and spirit through divine light.

Jesus himself pointed toward this truth when he said:

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are healthy, your whole body will be full of light.”Matthew 6:22

This sacred statement reveals the connection between spiritual perception and energetic transformation. The “eye” is not only our physical sight but also the inner vision—the third eye, or the Ajna chakra, which perceives the light of the soul. When the chakras are balanced and awakened, the flow of divine energy illuminates the entire being, filling body and spirit with radiant consciousness.

Early Christianity, especially the Gnostics, taught the same mystery under different words: that within each of us burns a Divine Spark, a fragment of the Infinite Creator. In the Gospel of Thomas, Jesus said:

“Images are visible to people, but the light within them is hidden in the image of the Father’s light. He will be disclosed, but his image is hidden by his light.”

This teaching mirrors the essence of the Law of One—that the Creator’s light dwells within all beings, and that our task is not to seek it elsewhere but to uncover it within. Through meditation, prayer, and a life aligned with love and service, the hidden light begins to shine, leading toward the full awakening of the light body—the living realization of Infinite Intelligence.

Jesus as the Rainbow Body of Light

In esoteric understanding, Jesus’ resurrection represents the ultimate realization of the Rainbow Body—the complete transformation of physical matter into divine light. Through perfect love, service, and union with the Infinite Creator, Jesus transmuted the density of form into the radiance of spirit.

Just as Tibetan masters dissolve into prismatic light at death, the Gospels describe Jesus’ body becoming luminous, transcending material limitations. His appearance after the resurrection—passing through walls, radiating light, and ascending into the heavens—reflects the same vibrational shift spoken of in Eastern and mystical traditions.

The Gnostics called this the revelation of the Divine Spark, the hidden light within humanity made fully manifest. Jesus embodied the living principle that when all chakras (energy centers) are purified and balanced in divine love, the human form becomes a temple of light, merging completely with the Source.

His teaching, “The eye is the lamp of the body; if your eye is single, your whole body will be full of light” (Matthew 6:22), is not only symbolic—it is an instruction for awakening the inner vision of the soul, aligning with the Law of One’s message that all is light, and all is One.

Thus, in the highest spiritual sense, Jesus is the archetype of the Rainbow Body—the full realization of Infinite Intelligence in human form, illuminating the path that every soul may follow toward unity with the Creator.
